Bakeri is often billed as the most charming bakery in Brooklyn and it’s hard to disagree. A stunning mural provides a backsplash of vibrant colors that set the tone for this relaxing neighborhood haunt. Opened in 2009, the bakery attracts locals in hordes most weekend mornings.

The display case is filled with irresistible treats (both savory and sweet options are available) and the smell of fresh-baked bread is nothing short of intoxicating. Between the decor and great bites, I always suggest Bakeri to folks visiting Greenpoint for the first time. It’s an easy place to love!

L’Appartment 4F

L’Appartement 4F started as a hobby for French expat Gautier Coiffard, who began experimenting with sourdough and croissant lamination during the pandemic. Encouraged by his wife Ashley, the duo began selling French pastries to friends, colleagues, and soon enough — to strangers.

The baked goods quickly gained popularity, leading them to open a storefront in Brooklyn Heights which dons long lines every morning. Within a year, locals began billing this as one of the best bakeries in Brooklyn, largely thanks to the delectable raspberry-chocolate-almond croissant.

Another big draw is the viral croissant cereal (the tiny croissants are hand-rolled in small batches). Known to sell out at opening, scoring a box is no easy feat but try your luck anyways. In any case, if you’re walking by and the line is short, pop in for some of the best baked goods in Brooklyn Heights (the coffee is great, too!).

7 Grain Army

But don’t,for a second,make the mistake of assuming this great gluten-free bakery in NYC churns out “healthy tasting food” because that couldn’t be further from the truth.The muffins alone warrant an hour-long subway ride and no one would be able to tell the bread is gluten-free unless told.

If you’re craving authentic French pastries reminiscent of the treats you’d find at Parisian boulangeries, Mille Feille delivers. The bakery knocks it out of the park with authentic baked goods, especially the namesake mille-feuille (referred to as Napoleon in North America).

The Brooklyn bakery couldn’t be cozier. It’s not very large, but it has all the basics covered. Excelling at macaroons and croissants, this local spot is a natural stop for a midday pick-me-up while exploring Prospect Heights.

Burrow

One of the most adorable bakeries in Brooklyn also happens to be one of the most underrated. Burrow is a shoe-box sized Japanese bakery open only four days a week (Tuesday-Friday) for four hours. The kicker? The baked goods tend to sell out by closing.

Considered the best babka in New York City, the dense concoction is richly studded with enough chocolate to satisfy the most ardent sweet tooth. This treat alone is worth a detour.

Win Son Bakery

Win Son Bakery is an impressive Taiwanese-American cafe, restaurant and bakery popular with the brunch crowd. The jack of all trades, the menu spans the gamut!

From hearty breakfast sandwiches (don’t sleep on the scallion pancake egg sandwich) to fermented red rice donuts and beef tongue pastrami, it’s not hard to see why locals consider Win Son one of the best bakeries in Brooklyn.

If you’re new to the world of Taiwanese cuisine, I suggest trying the Fan tuan, soft rice rolls filled with eggs, bacon and a crisply cruller. The combination of textures and flavors is excellent, it’s one of the most interesting bites I’ve had in NYC to date.

Don Paco Lopez Panaderia

Don Paco Lopez Panaderia is the only place to go when a craving for Mexican sweet bread (pan dulce) strikes. Opened in 1991, the family-run business goes back three generations. The aptly-named shell shaped sweet bread is a proper introduction to one of the best Mexican bakeries in Brooklyn.
